Two Services resumes Sunday, September 21

Well, we've been praying about this as a church for many weeks now and here we are on the verge of a big change.  We'ce stepped out in faith in August offering two times of worship, at 9:15 and 10:45.  Since we've never done this before (other than Easter of this year), you should probably expect that things won't be entirely smooth at first.  We're a bunch of people who simply want to worship the Lord and be a part of his mission, we're not professional entertainers.  Come as you are, with a desire to meet with the Lord, and don't sweat the details.  The services will be identical, both contemporary in style.  This is the season for us to BE the church of Jesus.  If you've been wanting to invite someone to church NOW is the time.  Unlike this summer, we'll have a seat available for your friend(s).  Here's some more details that you might find helpful:

What about Sunday School?  Sunday School will be during the 10:45 service.  Children will be invited to sit with dads and moms until about 11:00 am when they will be dismissed to attend their classes.  Right now we have two children's classes... 4-7 year olds with ChrisAnn Zook and 8-11 year olds with Marla Gesink.  At this time we'll have the younger children in the parsonage and the older children in the church office.  Adult Sunday School will take place in the parsonage with a fellowship time from 10:45 - 11:00 am.

What about Children's Church?  Children's Church will be offered during the 9:15 service.  Children will be invited to sit with their parents and will be dismissed to attend Children's Church at about 9:30 am.  Children's Church will be held in the parsonage.  Right now we have two age groupings, 4-7 year olds and 8-11 year olds.

Will Nursery be available both services?  YES!  If you or your friends have children under the age of 4 you can take them downstairs to our nursery staff during either service.  We are currently working on expanding our nursery space.  We are working towards having the older children in one room and the infants and crawlers in another room in the lower level of the church building.  Parents and grandparents and teenagers, we will certainly be in need of more volunteers this fall.  Can you serve one or two Sundays this fall during one of the worship services?  It would be a blessing to all the parents!  Call Rhoda at 378-6988 or Tanya at 580-0136.

Parking  If you are planning to be at both services (worshiping at one, going to SS or serving in the other), please consider parking away from the church building, perhaps on a separate street, so that the flow of traffic around the church building goes smoothly and people can find parking spaces easily.

What's the Worship Order going to be like?  Basically the same, except that we won't have a closing song at the end of each worship service.  After the Sermon, I'll close with a Benediction and we'll be sent out into the world as disciples of the Lord.

Mothers Of Preschoolers (MOPS) - There will be monthly activities during the summer months. Anyone interested is invited.

Youth Group -The Living Youth Group continues to meet over the summer.  The youth have seen lots of people recycling plastics and aluminum here at the church (the bins located near church office).  Please pray for the youth of our community. Chuck  580-5750.

Men's Breakfast Thursday mornings at 6:00 am at LWBF.  In addition to good food and fellowship, we are studying a portion of the Proverbs each Thursday before we pray.

Prayer Team - meets Tuesday mornings.

The NA group is going to have a BBQ at the parsonage on Saturday September 20th from 3-8pm.

Rock Party
If you noticed this week, the prep work for installing the doors at the new worship center has begun.  Over those doors will be a nice looking exposed timber entryway.  The building committee plans to have the columns covered with rocks.  So, we're having a "rock party" on September 21st.  Join us as we go out to the National Forest and pick up rocks from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm.  Please call Randy at 589-4051 if you want to help!

Caleb Project
Men of Faith, Ready for Action

If you have been wondering how you as a guy can live out Christ's call to be Salt and Light, there will be multiple opportunities to do so in the year ahead through the Caleb project. If you are interested in being a part of upcoming Caleb Project activities please contact Greg Bervig or Pastor Jeron.
“Then Caleb reassured the people before Moses and said,
‘Let us go up at once and possess it, for we are well able to conquer it.’” Numbers 13:30 (Living Bible)

Second Half for Him
There is a group of about 50 seniors coming down to our valley on September 24th and 25th from sister churches in Denver.  If you are 55 or older, you are invited to join Elizabeth and I at their banquet on Wednesday night, September 24th at the Inn of the Rio Grande.  They are also inviting all interested seniors to travel with them as they ride the train to Chama on the 25th.  Call Ron Blatchley at 303-734-1124 if interested.

Essentials of Discipline Parenting Class - Started Wednesday, September 10th. It will be every Wednesday through November 26 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm. Cost is $10 for the workbook. This is a great class for single and married parents. Couples are encouraged to attend together.

Christian Education Opportunities & News

-  Nursery Coordinator Needed  Rhoda Myers needs assistance in the management of the nursery on Sunday mornings.  Can you help?  Our nursery is open to kids 4 and under and there is some potential to use a portion of the time to teach the 3-4 year olds.  Please consider helping in this important ministry!
-  Children's Church Assistants Needed  Children's Church has been very successful in serving the families of our church.  Our goal in Children's Church is to use the time to grow kids in their knowledge and following of the Lord.  However, as our church has grown, sometimes the ratio of students to teacher has been too high, especially for the 4-7 year old group.  Perhaps you would be willing to be an assistant once or twice this summer to help make the kids experience as good as possible?  Please contact Michele Hernandez at 589-4905 if you can serve in this way.
-  Kids Promotion Sunday, September 7th  On Sunday, September 7th we are going to start an annual event of praying over and launching our Sunday School and Children's Church programs for a new school year.  It is at this time when children will be promoted to new classes.  If your child turns 4 by July 1st, we are looking forward to promoting them to the 4-7 year old children's church on September 7th.  If your child turns 8 by July 1st, they will be promoted to the 8-11 year old children's church on September 7th.  Following the age guidelines benefits the children, putting them in a position to learn appropriate to their maturity level.

Political Views, Emails and the Church - Here's an opportunity to learn how to bear with one another in love (Ephesians 4:2): This year should be the wildest ever in terms of political campaigns in our country, and emotions/;passion will be strong! Its imperative that we remember as Christians that while its important for us to be good citizens and to take an active role in the election process leading up to the November elections, its not OK to use church email lists or church property for the promotion of specific candidates or political agendas (Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, whatever). Please respect your fellow worshippers of Jesus who might have a different political view or belong to a different political party than you, and please protect the non-profit status of this congregation by living within IRS established boundaries. Thanks!

"We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing." 2nd Thessalonians 1:3   NIV
