What God Wants

Written by

There is a lot in the news right now about people treating each other wrongly and unjustly.  Both political parties are making accusations against each other of being unjust or unfair.  In this current political and acrimonious climate, if we aren’t staying centered on Christ, we could easily end up hurting someone with our words or our deeds as we are all so stirred up with the challenges facing our country.  May we never hurt anyone and may our relationship with God always be healthy, but what if you end up living in a way that isn’t good before God?

When you sin and do what isn’t pleasing to the Lord, should you do something?  Should you make some kind of restitution?  Try to appease Jesus in some way?  What does God want from us when we mess up?

Micah the Prophet spoke to a people who had drifted from their relationship with God and fallen into sin and idolatry.  He spoke to them on God’s behalf about their unfaithfulness to him.  There is a scene in chapter six of Micah (read 6:1-8) where Micah envisions a courtroom scene where God has brought in the earth to act as a judges against his people (1-2) and then the Lord asks his people what he has done to cause them to break the covenant and act wickedly against him, basically saying, “Haven’t I been faithful to you and taken care of you?”  In verses 6-7 the nation, represented perhaps by the king, has come to a conviction of guilt and asks what kinds of gifts or offerings can be given to restore the relationship.  What could be given to the Lord to “make things right?”  This is the wrong question, running down the wrong path for people who are already in relationship with God.

Micah’s famous answer in verse 8 isn’t the religious answer that the King (or the nation expected).  When you have already been forgiven and you are already in a relationship based upon grace, repentance isn’t about making it up to God or re-earning his favor through your good works or gifts, but about confessing your sin (1 John 1:9), trusting in his forgiving grace, and returning to Him in loving obedience.
“He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?”  (Micah 6:8 NASB).  Israel already knew what God wanted from them in terms of behavior.  As Christians we already know the good life God has called us to live.  So when we sin, we are called to respond to God’s love and gift of salvation with our heartfelt confession of our sin, but also with our obedience to Him, which always entails loving actions towards others.  God wants us to have a big heart for him, a big trust in him, but outwardly he wants us to always practice justice towards others and always be merciful towards others – even if they hold to another political viewpoint than we do.  God has already saved us – there is nothing we can do to contribute to His grace – He simply wants us to respond to the grace we’ve been given by serving and loving others as we have the opportunity and by staying close to Him.

Maybe you can ask these questions about your current relationships:  Am I being just towards this person?  Or am I treating them or talking about them unfairly?  Am I quick to forgive and move on, not taking things personally when someone says something poorly about me and my beliefs?  How would God want me to treat this person in this situation?

BUILDING COMMITMENT CEREMONY Sept 6 at 10:30 a.m.

With the onset of Covid-19 restrictions earlier this summer we never got the chance to have a “breaking-ground” ceremony for the new building.    Join us between worship services on Sunday, September 6 at 10:30 a.m. for a time of prayer on the site of the new Christian Education & Community Building. The concrete is scheduled to be poured tomorrow and on the 6th we’ll plan on gathering on the new floor to ask the Lord to use the future building for His glory.  If you have questions on the project please visit https://www.bringinglifeproject.org/

MARRIAGE NIGHT

Living Water’s Family Team invites all married couples to participate in this virtual event!  What would be great is if you could host a couple or two (or three!) in your house.  Go to MarriageNight.org and buy an In-Home Ticket for $30.  Perhaps use this event to launch a Marriage Group and do a 4 or 6 week study on how to strengthen or develop healthy marriages.  Contact Pastor Bo if you want to get started with a group (719-529-1204 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

PLAYGROUND PROGRESS

Thanks for everyone who came out for the playground workday.  Especially thankful for Sean Messersmith (who helped in the original playground installation) coming back and helping us remember how to do it again!  In the coming weeks fencing, turf and padding will be installed.  The target for playground re-opening is September 13.

LOST AND FOUND

Are you looking for your kid’s jacket or maybe you wondered where you left your Bible?  We’ve got a lot of stuff piling up in our lobby that needs to get back home!  Please check the coat rack in the outer lobby for missing items.

BUILDING USE

As we move into busier fall schedules and more ministries becoming active, it is important that everyone please check with the office (589-6351) before using the Sprung Building, Cross Building, Kitchen, Fellowship Hall or Sanctuary.  Please make sure you put your event or ministry on the calendar.  We want our buildings to be maximized for ministry but we don’t want any double bookings or misunderstandings, so please make sure you have a space reserved before you use it.  Additionally it is very important that after you use the space that you leave the room clean for the next ministry.  Our cleaning staff will be working hard to ensure clean rooms and spaces but we need everyone to help.  If you need guidelines or a list of cleaning responsibilities they will be available through the office. Thanks!

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES 9:00 & 10:45 a.m.

We continue our Acts sermon series this Sunday.  We want to encourage you to wear a mask (we’ll have some on hand if you forget yours), and ask that you refrain from physical contact and keep some distance from others.  If you are sick please stay home and join us via the live stream of the service.  Children’s Ministry and Nursery start Sunday, September 13!

SATURDAY MASK ONLY WORSHIP SERVICE 6:00 p.m.

We continue our Acts sermon series this Saturday.  Since May we’ve really been missing a good section of our church on Sunday mornings who really want to be with the Lord and church in person, but because they are vulnerable to the virus can’t participate freely in a setting where lots of people aren’t wearing masks. So Saturday night services are Mask Only.

SAFETY TEAM RECRUITMENT

For several years now we’ve had a Safety Team at Living Water.  We’re currently seeking new members.  While calling us to trust in God for our security and welfare, the Bible shares several instances where the people of God acted wisely by taking precautions in a fallen world. For instance, In 1st Chronicles, chapter 9, the Bible records the responsibilities of the gatekeepers of the house of God. They were trusted officials and guarded the rooms, treasures and the gates. The purpose of the LWBF Safety Team ministry is to allow our church family the freedom and safety to focus on learning about God, experiencing God, and worshipping God. The Safety Team will provide trained assistance to keep our church family safe in the event of medical emergencies, fire emergencies, necessary evacuations or lock-downs, intruders, or other disturbances. If this is something that you are interested in, please contact Randy Atkinson at 588-2809.
