A Church's Purpose

Written by

A man from our church saw a car on the side of the road and stopped to help. He was able to give assistance and help the single mom make it home. While they were talking the subject turned to God and church – she said she was looking for a church. While driving the woman and kids to their destination he drove her by Living Water Bible Fellowship and invited her to join us at a worship service.  She said that she drove by our building several times but never realized it was a church – she thought it was some kind of health spa!

Our brother’s act of love and willingness to invite her to worship with us is a great reminder of how acts of kindness and compassion can be used by God to help people meet him. I hope that this woman comes with her kids and her life is changed.  But there are deeper questions in this account.  What are we doing as a church?  What is our purpose?

All too often people do think that the church exists just to make people’s individual lives better. The church is often marketed as a place you go to get spiritually healthy or get a spiritual tune up. But it’s more than a health spa for the soul. While it’s true that what we emphasize and teach will lead people to experience better lives (if not in the short term, definitely in the long term), we as the church don’t exist just to give people a better experience in life.  We don’t exist simply to make people happy or to make them more successful (though we do see people transformed!).

Our mission is not to give people a religious experience or send them off on an emotional high. We are not in the entertainment business nor in the self-help line of work.  Our purpose as a church is to make disciples. The end of the Bible envisions a great separation of humanity where all people who are saved go on to heaven (eternal life with God) and all those who aren’t listed in the book of life are cast into the lake of fire (eternal death without God).  As a church our mission is shaped by this revelation.  We already know what will happen.  So in view of this day of judgment, this day of separation, our mission is to bring the message of life, the gospel, to those headed for eternal death. With a Christ-like love for people, we share with whoever will listen that though they have sinned and deserve condemnation, we proclaim that they can be forgiven and justified through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Once people turn to Jesus as their Savior and Lord, we then teach them his commandments and call them to join us in living a life of obedience and love for God and others. This gospel sharing has always best been done in community. As we love one another and live by God’s standards we are able to give evidence of how we’ve been changed as a community – they will know we are Christians by our love and service of one another.

As a church our life is lived in response to the grace of God. We study and learn the Scriptures, not for our sake, but so that we can grow in order to serve others and obey the Lord better. Our love for Jesus is ultimately expressed in how we live. Our worship is seen in how we give ourselves away for the benefit of others and for the glory of God. One example of which is a guy stopping and checking on a car by the side of the road – seeking to meet a felt need and then pointing those he serves to Jesus to get their real, ultimate need met.  A healthy church will always have these kinds of stories. Are you living with a view of the end?  Are you living on mission with Jesus? May our church continue to grow and participate in a greater and greater degree in God’s grand story of redemption. “All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation” (2nd Corinthians 5:18).

Hi Church!

Written by

Hi Church!

Wanted to let you know that there’s a new pastor’s fellowship that I’ve attended the last few weeks. Since the ugly attack against Gateway Church in the last few months, God has stirred many of us conservative Bible-believing pastors to gather and pray together (isn’t that how God so often works – bringing growth from trials?). As I sat with various pastors at these meetings I was reminded that we’ve all got friends or family in churches scattered throughout the San Luis Valley. It’s so good to pray for our neighboring churches and their leadership!  No one church can do it alone. Here’s a prayer suggestion: As you drive by churches in the coming weeks, get use to praying for God’s Spirit to fill those local congregations and to use them mightily to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Pray for the congregations to be outreached focused and to see the urgency in reaching the lost. Pray for churches to make a difference in our communities. Pray for the various churches in our valley who are departing from the Gospel and headed down a liberal or progressive road, to repent and turn back to God. And of course pray for our church family, LWBF! Pray for us to grow in our love for God, our love for each other and our love for the lost, and that God’s love that we’ve experienced would overflow towards others in loving service in Jesus’ name.

Lots happening at LWBF in the coming weeks!

Please be praying for Luke and Anna Smith’s visit on the 17th of November and for the Bringing Life Project!

Worship Through Music

Written by

Have you ever wondered about worship services? Why we gather as a large group on Sundays? And why we spend so much time singing in our meetings?

The word church in the New Testament is comes from the Greek word ekklesia which was used in the secular world to describe assemblies of citizens of Greek cities. A basic understanding of what it means to be a Christian church is that it is a people who assemble or gather together in the name of Jesus. We aren’t a church if we don’t meet. While there are times when a Christian is alone or when an individual can’t gather with the wider church, but it is never to be seen as normal or preferred to not be part of a congregation.

Our coming together as Christians in meetings or gatherings is assumed by the New Testament a normal part of our faith. Gatherings of the church “are not to be neglected” (Hebrews 10:25).  It’s not an optional activity, not “if you meet together, or “if it’s convenient” but a normative expression of our faith -“when you come together as a church” (1 Corinthians 11:18).

What’s the big deal about worship services or meetings?  Sadly, a lot of modern Christians treat them as optional – they see it as for their benefit and they feel like it’s not so beneficial, that other things are more worthy of their expenditure of time. They miss the point that we gather for God’s benefit, for his exaltation (and ironically, there is the reality that when we seek his kingdom first, we benefit – Matthew 6:33). There are a lot of things that happen when the church gathers, there are many important things accomplished. But the primary reason we gather is for the act of worship. We go to meet with our Lord and respond to him with acts of worship. Does worship happen only in a church meeting or service?  No. We as individuals can worship God and glorify Him with every part of our daily life, in fact this is our calling, our appropriate response (Romans 12:1-2, Ephesians 4:1). But there are elements of worship which can’t be accomplished individually, which only happen through a gathered body of believers. From the experiential side of things, while an individual can worship God alone, “such a worshipper simply cannot experience the presence of God to the fullness in which he is encountered in the gathered church. For God desires to be worshipped as he dwells in the midst of his people. Only as believers share with one another their individual union with Christ can the presence of God be experienced in its earthly fullness” (Brad Harper).  God hasn’t just saved you as an individual, he’s made you to be part of his church, his people, and it’s in the midst of the people of God where he especially dwells (Matthew 18:20), where he can be uniquely encountered and where he is most glorified.

We gather and meet as Jesus’ people to glorify God, to meet with our Lord and respond to his grace with our loving acts of worship. This is where music comes in.

We’re hopefully on the verge of hiring a Worship Pastor. This man is not only about music because the Lord’s worship is greater than music. A pastor who focuses on helping us worship will call us and equip us to worship God in a multitude of ways, but because corporate gatherings are so important and because singing is so important, this element of worship will be a big part of his job.

What’s up with singing?  Why do we do it so much?  How does it contribute to the Lord’s worship and our transformation?  There is a long history of singing together in the church: As Jesus went to his Passion, he joined his disciples in singing (Matthew 26:30).  While Paul and Silas were shackled in prison they were “praying and singing hymns” (Acts 16:26).  James told his readers that if they were cheerful that they should sing praise (James 5:13).  From the beginning local churches had gatherings in which they sang (1 Corinthians 14:15, 26).  The church is to “be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart” (Ephesians 5:19). Corporately we are let God’s word indwell us, which happens not only through mutual encouragement but through “singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts” (Colossians 3:16).

“Why is singing so appropriate for worship? First the scriptures indicate that singing the glories of God is a feature of the whole created order, not just humans. Metaphorical though it may be, when Isaiah imagines creation praising God, he imagines it by way of singing, calling on the mountains to burst out singing in praise of God (Isaiah 49:13; 55:12). Moreover, the angels praise God with singing… and as God pulls back the curtain of heaven for John, he is overwhelmed by the sight of millions of angels and other creatures singing the glories of God (Rev. 5). This suggests that music and signing are not merely products of human culture, but are part of the fabric of God’s creation” (Brad Harper).

We sing to proclaim Jesus.  He is the content of our songs.  His redemption and love and character are what we sing about.  We sing to confess our faith in him to each other and to the world.  Through our singing we build each other up in the truth. Singing is from the heart, allowing us to express our emotions (the whole range) to the Lord who has redeemed us. “Singing engages the mind, heart, and the organs of speech; the intellect, the emotions, and the physical self are involved. The tongue is the instrument on which God is praised, and this is done from the heart, and intelligibly” (Everett Ferguson).  In the act of singing we stand together as one body exalting the Lord together, which He loves. Singing is an act of unity in the Lord. It is our corporate outward gift to our God. Whereas we don’t bring animal sacrifices to the Lord in the New Covenant, we still bring offerings, including our songs of celebration for what God has done.

I’m looking forward to gathering with you this Sunday and lifting up my voice with yours in the presence of the one who is so worthy of our focus.  May God bless our services of worship.

Hi Church!

Written by

I went to a pastors gathering yesterday in Del Norte at Gateway Church. It was a great meeting with many SLV Bible-believing pastors in attendance. There was a lot of good communication and a new sense of togetherness which I haven’t felt in a long time. If you remember in the last month, Gateway church and their pastor were drug through the mud and falsely accused of being an “gay-hating” church. But it’s neat to see that out of that unfortunate incident (which Pastor Greg acknowledges some mistakes were made on his part and the church’s part) in which he received death threats and the church was picketed, that God seems to be stirring a new unity for the proclamation of the gospel in our valley. Pastor Greg reported that folks in his church, as a result of the incident, have been able to share the gospel at a greater rate as people ask them what happened and what they believe. We all at the meeting praised God for that report!  Please be in prayer for the faithful-to-Jesus churches in our area and for Christ-centered local pastors, and for sure look for opportunities to share the good news of the amazing love of God through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Here’s some of what’s happening in the coming weeks …

Are you signed up?  Please plan on signing up in the church office (589-6351 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). We’ll again be meeting at the Spring Canyon Retreat & Conference Center located in the beautiful mountains outside of Buena Vista, Co.  This is a great time to connect with others in your church family at a relaxed, retreat pace. Luke and Anna Smith (Worship Pastor candidate and wife) will be there leading us in some worship.  Our speaker this year is Gene Binder. Gene is the founder of Cornerstone Boulder in Boulder, Colorado. He was raised in the conservative branch of Judaism until the age of 10, and began following Rabbi Yeshua (Jesus) at the age of 31. Gene pursued an MA from Talbot Theological Seminary and has been a Christian pastor for more than thirty years. Many affectionately call him Rabbi Gene. Our theme is “Connecting the Dots.” We’ll be looking at how we as Christians are connected with Israel and the Jewish people – how the Old Testament and Israel’s story is connected to Jesus and Christian history.

CANDIDATE WEEKEND Nov 16-17

Luke and Anna Smith (and their infant son Samuel) will be worshiping with us on Sunday, November 17.  Luke is a candidate to become our Worship Pastor and so we’re going to have him involved in the services and have several opportunities for you to meet him and his family. Luke is from Cody, Wyoming and is looking to put down some roots in a small town as he’s starting his family. He is currently the director of worship and outreach at a church in Broomfield, CO so he is not only experienced in leading a large worship team but will potentially be able to help us in reaching out to our community. The Smith family will also be at the Church Retreat playing some music and meeting people.

Bringing Life Project; Vision for the Future

Written by

This week I started a Doctor of Ministry program at Denver Seminary (already turned in my first two assignments!). It will take me four years if I push hard to finish. Hopefully through this journey I can be used to help our church become healthier and more impactful in our valley for Jesus and the spreading of His awesome gospel.  I have to tell you that being a pastor is an incredible journey of faith! Every week I wear so many different hats (counselor, preacher, evangelist, administrator, teacher, community liaison, leader, prayer warrior, student, boss, janitor) in which I often feel inadequate. My week is filled with prayer for the Spirit’s filling and for God’s wisdom to lead me forward. One of the most challenging part of modern pastoring is thinking about the future of the church. I can’t see around corners and don’t have a crystal ball. Additionally the rate of cultural, societal and technological change seems to ramp up every year. Yet without vision, people perish. Without knowledge and wisdom of how to implement God’s word, people suffer. So we must plan for the future and take great steps of faith to fulfill the mission God has given us. I call you to support the Bringing Life Project through your sacrificial financial giving and prayer. But what’s the vision?  What do I see happening as a result of our investment and stewardship of God’s resources?  Here’s a short description of what I envision happening:

God has given us a great property at the hub of commerce, health care, education and shopping for the entire San Luis Valley. Thousands of vehicles pass our campus daily – cars and trucks filled with hundreds of children, hundreds of teenagers and college students, hundreds of adults from all walks of life.  We believe that expanding our campus and upgrading our facilities makes sense in terms of our responsibility to bring Jesus to our community.  So our long term vision is in Phase One to construct a Christian Education and Community Building and in Phase Two we will put up a new sanctuary while at the same time re-tasking our current main building for multipurpose usage.  There are a lot of solid reasons for us to build and invest in our physical campus as a strategy for spreading the gospel and making disciples. Given the vast distances in the San Luis Valley and the impoverished nature of many communities, there is a severe lack of available centralized places for organizations and groups to meet.  So we envision making our campus an oasis in the desert by creating great spaces which help people to connect with God and others.  Over the years we’ve developed a reputation for being open handed with our facilities and our vision is expand our partnership with the community.  In a small town you can talk about loving your neighbors but we can actually do that on a large scale through our facilities.  We want to support groups and organizations who are trying to make a difference in our world.  We want our neighbors to say “Thank God for Living Water Bible Fellowship.”  We want our neighbors and community to glorify God because our facilities help make life better for others.  From a different perspective, parents and grandparents with young children don’t have indoor spaces and places to meet, which is especially crucial in the winter, so we see a need to develop spaces where they can gather for Bible studies, community groups or seminars while at the same time having excellent facilities for child care and such amenities as an indoor play area and coffee bar. We want to be known in the San Luis Valley as a church that is “family friendly” and set ourselves up to serve families well.  We see a campus developing over the years that has excellent facilities for all age groups.  We want to strengthen marriages; support parents and help families build their homes according to God’s perfect design – having a central location for meetings and seminars and date night gatherings would be wonderful.  But the biggest reason for our expansion is of course with an eye to making more disciples for Jesus. As was mentioned above we are sorely lacking in proper educational spaces for children and adults.  We want to invest in the children and youth of the valley by providing them with a safe, clean and functional places to meet. We want to become a pipeline that continually delivers disciples and leaders to the world that are prepared and are mature ambassadors for Christ – we envision having a facility that will make all this possible. If our hearts are in the right place and if we remain obedient to Jesus’ mission it seems likely that we will grow numerically so we do envision a time in the future where we will need a new sanctuary, which would be a great “problem” to have!  While these kinds of projects aren’t cheap, over the course of 50 or 60 years the impact on the community far outstrips the initial investment.

A STORY OF FAITH AND SURVIVAL October 6

Siv Ashley started her life as a normal child in an average, happy family in Cambodia. She was surrounded by loving family members. On April 16, 1975, everything changed. Red soldiers evacuated her family with thousands of Cambodians and marched them to work camps to work in the government’s rice fields. Children worked 12 hour days. They were fed only rice and water. Siv’s enduring faith and prayers helped her survive against all odds. Come hear her compelling and inspiring story, Sunday evening October 6 at 6:00pm, here at Living Water.

Church Update!

Written by

Hi Church! Hope you are doing well.

This last Sunday we had a great start to our children’s ministry during the 10:45 service. Everyone did a wonderful job checking in using the new IPad Kiosks. This Sunday the kids will be starting the “Gospel Project” curriculum – perfect time to get the kids in a rhythm of attendance.

Please be in prayer for the Lord to bring us a Worship Pastor. We’ll be expanding our search this week. Our new sound system is wonderful – it was the first Sunday with the drums with the new system / new set up and we realized the drums were really loud – please be patient as we continue to make adjustments!

LIVING WATER FALL CHURCH RETREAT - November 14-16

Save the date! We’ll once again be meeting at the Spring Canyon Retreat & Conference Center located in the beautiful mountains outside of Buena Vista, Co. Our speaker this year is Gene Binder. Gene is the founder of Cornerstone Boulder in Boulder, Colorado. He was raised in the conservative branch of Judaism until the age of 10, and began following Rabbi Yeshua (Jesus) at the age of 31. Gene pursued an MA from Talbot Theological Seminary and has been a pastor for more than thirty years. Many affectionately call him Rabbi Gene. Our theme is “Connecting the Dots” (based upon the title of Gene’s book) and we’ll be looking at how we as Christians are connected with Israel and the Jewish people – how the Old Testament and Israel’s story is connected to Jesus and Christian history. Ultimately we’ll “Connect the Dots” to our story and how God uses us in his redemptive plan.

WANT TO VOLUNTEER / SERVE THE LORD at Living Water?

We have a number of places and ministries in the church where you can serve others. We have a ministry opportunities board in the hallway of the church or you can visit our website (livingwateralamosa.org) and hit the “Serve/Volunteer in a Ministry” tab under Next Steps.  If you want to explore how God has wired you for ministry you can also take the “Spiritual Gifts Test” found on our website under Resources

Establishing a Rhythm

Written by

Good morning church! I heard a rumor that Summer was over. Is it true?  For many, post-Labor day week is when Fall routines get set. I hope you are making a good transition and finding your rhythm.

May I humbly make a suggestion? As you set your schedule make sure God has a non-negotiable place in your daily and weekly routine. It seems like a small thing, but if we don’t dictate how our time is used, we tend to make our relationship with the Lord secondary. It’s amazing how our commitments shape our soul! Our relationship with Jesus isn’t meant to be an add on when we remember, nor is He supposed to be getting mere scraps of time that we cobble together. When we don’t set aside time for the Lord we feel far away from God and we end up feeling bad about letting this relationship suffer. So my suggestion - Make the Lord a priority this Fall, by prioritizing Him in your schedule. What does this look in normal life? How does this work?  Daily: Set aside as non-negotiable a time of Bible reading and prayer. Some stages of life (having infants or toddlers for example) can make this commitment difficult but the alternative is that your time hearing from God and communicating with God is hit or miss, and some weeks if you don’t have this commitment, it will be all miss. Weekly: Whether you are home or traveling, attend a worship service each Sunday. Not for legalistic reasons or to impress anyone, but simply to have a time set apart for the worship of God. There is something special about the commitment to gather with the church family week in and week out. I’ve noticed that the people who have this commitment are much more stable in their relationship with the Lord and they are those who feel closer to God and tend to be more involved in using their spiritual gifts and engaging in ministry to others. This simple rhythm of living, grounds you and helps you stay connected to the Lord.  Along the same lines it’s important to have a weekly connection to a group of Christians whom you can be relationally close to. Frankly we need people praying for us and supporting us. We need practical acts of love. We need accountability. Whether it’s a weekly coffee with a mentor or a weekly Community Group or Bible Study we are blessed to have a living connection with real people.  Monthly: At Living Water we celebrate a monthly Lord’s Supper observance in our worship services. I suggest that you schedule into your life some kind of a monthly routine in which you have a time of confession of sins, or a special time of prayer, or a time of fasting and prayer. Maybe you keep a journal during the month and then monthly take the time to read through it to pick up themes or moods that have entered in to your life and prayerfully consider what kind of spiritual disciplines which might be appropriate to apply given the state of your soul. Maybe it’s a monthly celebration as a family where you go out to eat and celebrate what the Lord has done, having each family member share something from the month they are thankful for? Or Maybe your small group does a monthly worship service that is special? Or maybe your Bible study does a monthly outreach to the community? Schedule it and don’t let the world encroach upon your sacred time. Establishing routine in our schedule is incredibly helpful for our souls. Our modern world gives us unlimited entertainment opportunities and our consumer shaped heart are easily bought by marketing promises. Having Christ formed in us requires time and if we don’t devote and dedicate time to the Lord we won’t grow more mature nor will we be close to him – if you never move close to the Lord why in the world should it surprise you if you end up feeling far away from him?  Make sacred appointments in your calendar – you won’t regret it!

Here’s some of how you can get involved in your church family in the weeks ahead…

SUNDAY MORNING CHILDREN’S MINISTRY – Starts this Sunday!

We’re excited to have your kids (preschool-5th grade) join us this Sunday!  We’re launching a new system and style – here’s the plan:  Parents, when you come to the 10:45 service, arrive a bit early to check in your kids. There are three kiosks in the main building (outer lobby, inner lobby and by west double doors). If your kids haven’t participated in our children’s ministry before, allow a bit more time to get registered. But if we already have your kids in our system, just find their names, check them in and print some identification labels – there will be people present to help!  Then come into the sanctuary for worship!  All the children will start out in the worship service and then midway through the service they will be released (after the offering, we will sing the Doxology as a sign for them to go) and they will be escorted from the lobby to the Sprung Building (children can of course can stay in the whole worship service with parents and not participate in children’s ministry).  After the service go and pick up your kids in the Sprung Building using your printed label as identification. This Fall we are using a curriculum called “The Gospel Project” which will help children see the Bible as one story of God’s plan to save the world through Jesus Christ. Children will hear the Gospel each Sunday, learn a Bible story (as well as the big-picture story of what God has done through history) and be encouraged to live out their faith every week. Contact Pastor Bo if you would like to serve the kids as a teacher or helper this Fall! This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 719-529-1204

What are we building our life upon?

Written by

What are we building our life upon?  As we enter a season of seeking to add a new church building (Bringing Life Project coming soon!) what is our church family built upon? Having great tools like a new Christian Education Community Building is going to be great, but the church needs to have a healthy relationship and walk with the Lord in order to use the tool to its full potential. So the Sundays in September (and spilling into October) the sermons are going to focus on the foundational elements of the Christian life. Are you building your life upon the right things?  Are we practicing the things which bring life to a community? This Sunday we’ll start the Building Blocks sermon series with a focus on Jesus as The Cornerstone from Ephesians 2:11-22. We’ll be celebrating the Lord’s Supper at 9:00 and 10:45.

REIGN YOUTH GROUP FALL LAUNCH Tonight!

On Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm, Living Water has a youth meeting where teens (6th grade – 12th grade) meet with God through the study of his Word and through prayer and worship. Students entering the 6th grade this Fall are invited to join Reign (bring your parents!) on Wednesday, August 28 as the group kids off their Fall program. Contact Cliff & Cari Kincannon at 719-852-3591 for information or to ask questions.

COMMUNITY GROUPS

SUNDAY MORNING CHILDREN’S MINISTRY UPDATE – Starts September 8th!

Parents and those interested in serving in Children’s Ministry this Fall, please join Pastor Bo in the Sprung building after the second service this Sunday (Sep. 1st) for a Children's Ministry "Open House.” If you are a parent wanting to know what your child will study this Fall, come look through the curriculum and ask questions! If you are someone looking to serve children as a teacher or helper, come and find out what roles you can fill! Join us!

For those of you coming to worship services this Sunday, there will be check in kiosks in the lobby that you can practice checking in children and printing out nametags.

This Fall we are changing things up in our children’s ministry. For the last decade we’ve offered a “children’s church” style ministry during the 10:45 service where kids were checked in before the worship service and checked out after the service. Starting Sunday, September 8th we’re launching a new structure during our 10:45 service in which kids (preschool-5th grade) will all start out in the worship service and then midway through the service they will be released for age-appropriate classes (children can of course can stay in the worship service with parents and not participate in children’s ministry). We are striving for children to be more integrated with the larger congregation, and we want them to participate with their parents in worshiping the Lord in such things as singing, offering and taking the Lord’s Supper, but we also want to children to learn the Bible in a way that meets them where they are through age appropriate classes and content. See you September 8th! Contact Pastor Bo if you would like to serve the kids as a teacher or helper this Fall! This email address is being protected from spambots. Extroverted Church

Written by

The last several weeks we’ve had a lot of people coming into our buildings. We’ve hosted Eagle Lake Camp, Vacation Bible School, Global Leadership Summit, as well as the Adams State University football team. WHEW!

Additionally we’ve been inviting people to join us for ministries and programs that are launching and of course we are welcoming new people every Sunday to our public worship services. Not only that but we’ve sent teams out this summer, reaching out to people cross-culturally and have started supporting more missionaries.

Where does this eagerness come from?  Why go to all the trouble and work to reach out to people who don’t share our values or convictions, who don’t believe what we believe?  Why not be a church that just keeps to ourselves and worships God privately?  Because as the saying goes, it is not about us. As Jesus “came to seek and save the lost,” as Jesus came “not to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many” we have an inward drive and a biblical mandate to be an outgoing, risk taking, loving our neighborhood in Jesus’ name, local church.

The Spirit of God is prompting us and urging us and moving us to be about Jesus’ mission of reaching out to people and calling them to become his disciples. The Holy Spirit is stirring us up to love people and help them know the love of God in Christ. “Rather than driving us deeper into ourselves, away from other people and external authorities, the Spirit drives us outside of ourselves by a public word and ministry that makes us extroverted – looking up  to Christ in faith, looking forward in hope, and looking out to our neighbors in love” (Michael Horton).

“For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised…All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us” (2nd Corinthians 5:14-15,18-20).

Let’s continue to become a healthier and heathier group of Jesus followers. Let’s continue to become more and more extroverted and outward focused as a church, so that we can have more opportunities to share the Gospel, so that we can see our Lord glorified and know the joy of seeing lives transformed by the power of God.

Here’s some of what’s happening at Living Water in the coming weeks…

COLLEGE MEAL this Sunday after the 2nd worship service

Anchored College Ministry has launched!  Please invite college students and young adults to the College Meal this Sunday, August 25th

HYMN SING this Sunday at 6pm

SUNDAY MORNING CHILDREN’S MINISTRY UPDATE – OPEN HOUSE!

Parents and those interested in serving in Children’s Ministry this Fall, please join Pastor Bo in the Sprung building after the second service this Sunday (25th) or next Sunday (Sep. 1st) for a Children's Ministry "Open House.” If you are a parent wanting to know what your child will study this Fall, come look through the curriculum and ask questions! If you are someone looking to serve children as a teacher or helper, come and find out what roles you can fill! Join us!

See you September 8th! Contact Pastor Bo if you would like to serve the kids as a teacher or helper this Fall! This email address is being protected from spambots. MOTHERS OF PRESCHOOLERS

Our first official meeting will be on Wednesday morning, September 4th. MOPS is an acronym for Moms Of Preschoolers and is a ministry geared towards women from pregnancy through Kindergarten. We build friendships, share in each other’s motherhood and life struggles, and most importantly we point moms to the source of all hope, Jesus. This is a relational outreach ministry, and we have many moms who do not currently have a relationship with Jesus. If you know any moms who have children ages 0-6, please point her in our direction! And if you are able to help with this ministry, we are always looking for help with childcare, set up, clean up and mentor moms. Please reach out to Alison Hickman at (321) 356-4790 for more information.

CHURCH POTLUCK AND CELEBRATION MEETING Sunday September 15

As we come to the end of Summer and we are entering into new Fall schedules the Elder Board wants to gather the church to celebrate what God has done in our midst, to review our mission as a church and to dream and pray about the future. Please plan on joining us for a meal after the 2nd worship service and then staying for the meeting.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN THE WORD ADULT BIBLE STUDY starts September 18

Pastor Jeron will be exploring God’s Word on Wednesday nights starting September 18. This study will run from 6:30-8:00 pm. This Fall’s study is going to focus on God’s plan for the world as revealed by the Bible. We’ll investigate themes that run from Genesis to Revelation regarding God’s creation of the world, God’s plan for humanity, the mission of God and what the Word reveals about the eternal state. Does your view of the world and the future match up with what God has revealed? Let’s get into the Word together! Parents, Waves quizzing for kids and Reign youth group meet at the same time and there will be child care for infants and toddlers so it’s a great night for the family to focus on the Lord.
